On 2-3 April, seven Josephians
participated in the Hong Kong
Odyssey of the Mind Local
Competition, which encouraged
and focused on creativity. As St.
Joe’s leading teacher for the
competition, I have always been
telling our boys to have fun and
show
our
characters
when
entertaining audiences.
We never expected to win anything. While students
frommany other schools cried their slogan like “We are
the champion” or “We have to win”, St. Joe boys
screamed, “We are forced to play!” This was something
particularly impressed me because it showed our style
right at the beginning,
and the judges loved
it verymuch.
Unsurprisingly,
our score was not
high. Yet, to our
pleasant
surprise,
the
boys
were
awarded a special
award at the closing
ceremony – the
Creativity Award. Initially, we thought this was just a
consolation prize. Nevertheless, we learned that this
award was not presented every year, because not many
teams really made people feel they
were creative.
Let’s not get carried away. One
award does not mean much, let
alone an award other than first to
third
places.
But
I
am
extraordinarily happy that we have
earned it because
it proves that it is
right to stick to
one’s character.
In a score-
based
society,
everyone tries to
perform like the
winner. Some will even look into performances of
previous champions in order to get a champion score.
Competitions eventually become imitation contests. This
Creativity Award, on the other hand, is a soft voice
reminding us that instead of living under people’s
shadows, we can go on being ourselves, because
people do appreciate it. Andwhat ismore?Wehave fun!
-
Musketiers
(2015-16 StudentUnion)
Musketiers
St. Joe
St. Joe Brotherhood
St. JoeBrotherhood
Josephians
St. Joe
St. Joe
St. Joe
St. Joe
Musketiers
St. Joe
St. Joe
St. Joe
