Visiting Josephians in Canada
It is always our ambition to achieve a closer tie with Josephians living overseas. We certainly have a great number of Josephians living in Canada. Taking advantage of a recent work visit to Canada, Matthias Li Shing Chung (on the Board of Trustees, Rev. Bro. Paul Sun Education Foundation) acted as our roving ambassador extraordinaire calling on Josephians in Toronto and Vancouver.

On Sunday, August 22, Matthias went to a dinner gathering with many Josephians of the SJACS Ontario Alumni Association in Toronto. The current President & Director is Matthew Poon (SJACS '65), also a former teacher at SJACS. Besides delivering our message of well wishes, Matthias gave an update on the current work of the Josephian Association, and in particular, the initiatives of Rev. Bro. Paul Sun Education Foundation.

We hope under Matthew’s leadership, the alumni body in Toronto will become much stronger. Meanwhile, we look forward to his guidance in raising funds in Toronto for the Foundation. Pursuant to the visit by Matthias, a message was issued by Matthew, and this is reproduced below. We feel sure our alumni bodies would continue to work hand-in-hand to promote the great St. Joseph family spirit. So, thank you, Matthew and everyone in Toronto!

Matthias then went on to Vancouver. His meeting with the Vancouver Association proved very fruitful. His classmate of ’72, Timothy Kam, helped to organize a yum cha session. Despite the absence of President, Bon Wong and Vice President, Kevin Ng due to prior engagements, the following Josephians were on hand to greet Matthias:
Calvin Lai, John Leung , Elmond Wong, and Frank Chow (all of’72), and Paul Lau (’71), Robert Luk (’70), Edwin Chan (’69), and also Joseph Lau, who used to teach in the SJACS Primary Section.

Matthias gave an update us on the development of the Josephian Association and the Rev. Bro. Paul Sun Education Foundation.  The mandatory cheerful round of group photos of the gathering was taken (and can be seen here) in this report.

After his departure, Timothy has written to inform that they would be calling a Directors’ meeting to discuss the fund raising initiatives in the next couple of weeks. We hope before long we will hear from them again.

Thanks to Matthias, we have meanwhile achieved a closer tie with Josephians in Toronto and Vancouver.
