Events and Activities - JOSEPHIAN ASSOCIATION ANNUAL DINNER 2011

THE JOSEPHIAN ASSOCIATION ANNUAL DINNER 2011

The Josephian Association held its Annual dinner at Paramount Banquet Hall, on Waterloo Road on Saturday, Dec 10. Organized by our younger alumni comprising the 2011 Annual dinner Organizing committee with Kenneth Ngai (‘01) as Chairman, this year's AD carried the theme of "Youth Power".  So, youth it is and this year's AD is, in fact, the largest gathering JA has ever put together: 30 banquet tables with more than 300 participants, including many former teachers and fellow alumni from different years (from year ‘70 to year ‘03) being represented. Special appreciation should go our alumni from ’78, ’79 and ‘89 fielding the largest contingent.

The guests of honour on this occasion included Father Vittorio, who blessed the dinner gathering at the outset, the school supervisor, Irving Koo, and Principals Yeung and Kwok. To kick off the dinner, Principal Yeung led a number of students singing the school song.

In Mr. Yeung’s speech, he acknowledged the generous donations to the School from many of the alumni via the Rev. Bro. Paul Sun Education Foundation and provided an update on how the money had been used. He also announced the naming of the new school hall as the Rev. Bro. Paul Sun Memorial Hall scheduled to take place on Mar 19, 2012. Principal Kwok also acknowledged the unrelenting support given by the alumni to the primary school in her speech.

The evening’s entertainment program followed. One of the performances during dinner was the singing by our secondary school students. It was amazing to witness the music talents of our younger brothers. That was some ‘youth power’ indeed! Then it was the magic show performed by Iver Lau (‘01). Again this year it was another great one.

Midway during dinner, Matthias Li (‘72), Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rev. Bro Paul Sun Education Foundation, delivered a speech, recapping the background of and providing an update on the Foundation. He highlighted the fact that since establishment in Nov 2009, the Foundation had raised some $1,000,000, thanks to our alumni worldwide and friends of the Foundation, and made the first donation of $500,000 to the School in Mar this year. He also announced the plan of making the next $500,000 donation to the School next March.

To help the Foundation raise fund, former teacher, Lester Chan, donated 100 of his new English books for sale at the dinner. They were sold out in no time and raised over HKD 10,000 for the Foundation.

The highlight of the Dinner was the luck draw. We have to thank a great number of sponsors for contributing to a very attractive prize list, including, of course, Mr. Jason Lee (‘77), for his 3 superb bicycles. Urged on by a long list of prizes, the raffles ticket sales went extremely well. We should also thank PTA for their cufflink and tie clips sales which also helped raising fund for JA .
