BPSF Charity Event:
Boat Trip and Seafood Lunch on 2 Oct 2011

A few days before the event, a typhoon came past Hong Kong, causing unstable weather to follow in its wake. Came Sunday, it was overcast with light scattered showers. We decided to proceed since some 18 people had already registered. The party was made up of boys of ’72 and families. The last to join was Matthew Poon (’65 and former SJACS teacher), Chair of the Toronto alumni. It was a toss between the closer Lamma Island and the farther-away Po Tai Island. A quick show of hands indicated most wanted to take that short hike on Po Tai Island.

Participants promptly gathered at the Aberdeen Promenade at 9.30 a.m. and boarded the awaiting boat. The voyage was not rough and Po Ping’s two girls were delighted with the experience. We arrived at Po Tai before 11 a.m. After off-loading the wine we had brought along for lunch at the only restaurant on the island, the party started hiking up hill. Since there was a drizzle all this time, we decided to head back after taking group photos at a scenic spot along the rocks’ edge.

By the time we made it back to the restaurant, we found Justin Chu had arrived on his own speed boat coming from his home in Sai Kung. Quickly the menu was set and wine was poured. The seafood tasted especially delicious to the hungry mouths after the short hike. Despite a wet day, it was great fun to go out for some fresh air, exercise and seafood lunch. The party got back to Aberdeen shortly after 2 p.m.

Thanks to all participants, this event managed to raise $8,800 for the Foundation. What a propitious number indeed!
