Events and Activities - SJACS New Campus Opening Ceremony (19 Mar 2011)

SJACS New Campus Opening Ceremony (19 Mar 2011)

On 19th March 2011, we celebrated the Alma Mater’s 53rd anniversary at the new campus.  The official opening and blessing ceremony was held in the morning, followed by an open day event.  The Secretary for Education, Mr. Suen Ming Yeung, and the Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, Rev. Yeung Ming Cheung, officiated at the Ceremony.  Representing the alumni at the function was the Josephian Association’s newly elected Vice Chairman, Anthony Mak (SJACS ’90). Along with the other invited guests, Anthony was honored with the privilege of witnessing this historical milestone event.

It was also the School’s Open Day. The new campus was open to the public and
visitors and students from SJACPS and other primary schools were invited.  There were guided tours and booth games during the whole day for visitors numbering in the hundreds.  Student groups such as boy scouts, the school band, martial arts club and road safety patrol, hosted their own booths and organized mini games for the visitors.  With the help of Josephian, Matthias Li (SJACS ’72), the Ocean Park Conservation Fund supported the Open Day by sponsoring a booth, which was operated with the help of the Biology Club.  The Josephian Association also held a booth set up with a mini game, and various JA souvenirs were also put on sale.

The highlight of the day was the official blessing ceremony for the statue of the School’s founder, the late Rev. Brother Paul Sun, held in the afternoon.  Despite a blustery afternoon, the occasion was well attended, including, needless to say, many old boys and their families. The ceremony was officiated by the School’s Supervisor, Rev. Victor and the Principal, Mr. Paul Yeung.  Afterwards a donation ceremony was held. Earlier, the Board of Trustees of the Rev. Bro. Paul Sun Education Foundation (BPSF) decided to donate to the new campus as the very first project of the Foundation. The first sum to be handed over was HK$500,000. A cheque was presented to the School by trustees of BPSF, Ng Man Kin and Li Hon Keung, Daniel. The Students Association had raised some fund from the booth they operated at Victoria Park during the Chinese New Year. A sum of HK$10,000 was donated to BPSF. It was excellent Josephian family spirit, indeed.

There were quite a number of old boys who turned up, and some of them were visitors from the US and Canada, and everyone enjoyed the day.  The event ended at 5:00 pm.
