Saying Farewell to The Old School Building

On Saturday, 23rd January 2010, our Alma Mater held a "123 Poon Choi" event in the playground area of the secondary school campus. Thanks to the continuing support from our alumni coordinators, we received excellent response from Josephians of all ages. All in all, there were 46 tables, including 33 tables of Josephians from different years, 5 tables of guests, 3 tables of parents and 5 tables of current teaching staff, retired teachers and administrative staff. To further show our support, a number of mentors from our Mentor Scheme sponsored some tickets for their mentees and one of the 46 tables was assigned to F.5 student mentees. It turned out to be a veritable happy St. Joseph’s family gathering.

The Josephian Association supported the event not only by buying tickets but also helping with the planning and management of the event. A dedicated booth was set up for us at the entrance, and those who booked their tickets via our alumni coordinators enjoyed the privilege of express check-in. The MC of the event were Mr. Yip Kai To (Vice Principal), Mr. Yim Chun Leung (Teacher), Mr. Chan Ming Hung (Teacher, SJACS ’81) and Mr. Chan Wan Hoi (陳雲海, SJACS ’89). Rev. Fr. Vittorio Grioni kicked off the event by a heart-warming welcome speech. Then the Organizing Committee of the New School Campus reported on the progress and expressed their gratitude to everyone for their support. Dinner was served after the School Song was sung.

A pre-recorded interview with local pop singer Mr. William Chan (陳偉霆, SJACS ’03) was shown and everyone enjoyed it. While everyone was busy with photo-shooting and catching up, a lucky draw was held. Our Directors, Mr. Andrew Li Chi Sheung (SJACS ’72) and Mr. Daniel Li Hon Keung (SJACS ’72) showed their support by sponsoring some fine wine and backpacks as prizes. The lucky draw added to the fun of the evening.

The following retired teachers were invited to the event: Mr. Chan Kong Chiu (陳江潮校長) , Mr. Chiu Sin Chun (趙善晉副校長), Mr. William Cheng (鄭偉廉老師), Mr. Li Kung Cheun (李恭銓老師), Mr. Lee Hon Leung (李漢良老師), Mr Cheung King Cheung (“大張”張景祥老師), Mr Cheung King Cheung Thomas (“細張” 張景祥老師), Mr. Chan Shui Wah (陳瑞華老師), Mr. Yuen Wai Chai (袁華濟老師) and Mr. Lau Chi Keung (劉志強老師).

There was a certain sadness surrounding this farewell event. However, all those treasured memories will no doubt endure. Josephians will remember this night for many years to come.
